About an alternative definition of subjective well-being

The aim of this paper is to contribute to the international debate on “overcoming GDP” as a measure of well-being by proposing additional indicators to define equitable and sustainable well-being. Recently, the debate on how to measure well-being has involved both policy makers and researchers as changes in lifestyles and in the economic, social and environmental fields have underlined the need to adopt new statistical indicators. The starting point of the analysis is that equitable and sustainable well-being should evaluate the progress of society, not only from an economic, but also from a social and environmental point of view. By means of multidimensional statistical analysis and rankings, the relevance of several subjective indicators in defining the overall well-being is demonstrated.
