Religion is undoubtely regaining a central position among the issues to be investigated by social scientists, and particularly philosophers. However, in order for a successful investigation to be performed we should firstly give up the idea that it would be possible to evaluate 'religions' on the basis of a notion -that of 'religion' - which is not able to explain, let alone understand, the variety of religious attitudes at hand in our societies. This should be the first step towards an eventual effectived intercultural communication among 'religions' widely perceived and unquestioned, particularly in the face of the variety of religious attitudes and behaviors coexisting in multicultural societies, which leads to differentiated claims to recognition and freedom of expression on the part of a growing number of individuals.
