Abstract
We consider four-dimensional N = 1 supersymmetric heterotic string theories. It is shown how an underlying E6 symmetry organizes the (massless) states into supermultiplets. Scattering amplitudes in the purely gravitational and matter sectors are computed and the low-energy field theory is found.
