Glucocorticoids are a class of hormones which affect virtually every aspect of physiology, including metabolism, behavior and immunity. The most important glucocorticoid in humans is cortisol.
In this thesis, the associations between the exposure to glucocorticoid hormones, obesity and obesity-related problems were studied.
We investigated three aspects of glucocorticoids: the glucocorticoids produced endogenously, glucocorticoid-containing medications, and the genetics of sensitivity to glucocorticoids at the cellular level.
