More and more young children are online. In 2008, 60% of European 6- to 10- year-olds used the Internet, against 84% of the 11- to 14-year-olds and 86% of the 15- to 17-year-olds. The age at which kids start using the new media is dropping and this trend of using new media at a younger age is visible in all European countries (Livingstone and Haddon 2009). Yet most research into the use of new media focuses on teenagers, leaving the young children underexposed to the light of scientific research.
