Nesting Conflicts between Mix-farmed Solitary Bees and Wasps
Issue Date:
2008
Abstract (summary):
Contests within a single nesting cavity include cut back of an earlier nest in the cavity, blocking its emergence, or being pierced by exit of the earlier one. Osmia lignaria uses a wide range of cavity diameters and usually defeats all but one of the species it encounters. However, that species (the resin-using bee Megachile campanulae) occupies a narrower range of cavities and so does not encounter all possible contenders.
