no tempo específico, utilizando múltiplos métodos, nomeadamente: entrevistas semiestruturadas
As
As mulheres criam as
The present study pretended to explore the field of the dead celebrations on the 1st of November in a transmontan village of Meixide, presenting an aesthetic analysis of the rituals through the eyes of the population – including children -, and of the investigator to understand how people express themselves about death and how they search for immortality. At last, how a society sees the death and the way it cares the ancestors, imposes the way to live the present. The fundamental issues that leaded the present study in this village intended to understand: how the death concept is understood and transmitted (formally by the school and informally by the family); how the roles of the woman, man and child are distinguished in the cemiterial context and in the rituals of the All Saints Day/Day of the Dead; and how it is possible to check on the influence of the socio-economic, religious and geographical context in the aesthetical expression related with the death. The methodological approach was visual micro-ethnography adapted to the study development because it was restricted geographically and in a specific time, using several methods, namely: semi structured interviews oriented to nine inhabitants of Meixide, three of which are the only village’s children; analysis of national and international literature concerned with the studied subject; observation; and visual and sound registry (by photography and video) of the eternal and ephemeral aesthetic expressions (created by men and women) in Meixide’s cemetery and of the rituals of the day 1.11.2006 and 2007. The obtained results by the analysis demonstrated: how the death concept is understood and worked in this specific context; the significance that the traditions related with the death have in diffusing the knowledge and the attitudes; the influence exercised by the formal and informal education; how the different genders and ages define the attitudes, the roles and the aesthetic expressions to be developed in the cemetery; and how the aesthetic expression is restricted by the socio-economical, geographical and cultural context. The obtained images from the visual data collection guided the interviews, in an attempt to understand how the roles between the genders continue to be separated even in death issues, how the feelings of death are transmitted to the child and how the cemetery becomes a stage of marginalized aesthetic expression. One of the conclusions that is taken according to the roles of woman, man and children in this ritual is that the woman’s and the man’s space has been for a long time separated, being related the first one with the private space, and the second one with the public space, and that it is still confirmed the separation of the tasks in the cemetery by genders. The women create the ephemeral aesthetic expressions, while to the men are related the eternal ones. Regarding the School, it continuous not to value the context, and in case of Artistic Education, it doesn’t establish bridges between the Arts, the Patrimonial issues and the local rituals. At last, can be concluded that the woman, creator of ephemeral aesthetic works, is not esteemed in the artistic and social field, because she doesn’t receive artistic formal education by a specific entity, because she doesn’t follow the steps expected by the occidental society to obtain the title of “Artist”, because she express aesthetically and directly with raw materials that the land gives her and because she preserves the anonymity. By concluding this investigation, we have the consciousness of the need to continue to answer to the educator’s, anthropologist’s, artist’s and in general population’s needs and that the investigation was just a beginning: there is still a long way to go. |
