a 9% a 400 °C.
According to some studies [1], the concentrated solar power (CSP) will be the main energy source for the Mediterranean region after 2020. To make these predictions a reality, is necessary to maximize the efficiency of the photothermal converters. Thus, the main goal of this work is the development of an optical system based on multilayer coatings composed by Si and Al compounds and a layer of W [W/AlSiNx/AlSiNxOy/(SiO2/AlSiOx)] for efficient photothermal conversion of the solar radiation. To this purpose, these coatings must have a solar absorption exceeding 95 % and a thermal emission, which is associated with energy losses by radiation, less than 9% at 400 ºC. These optical properties need to be associated with a long life of the optical system in operating conditions, i.e. they must be thermally stable at surface temperatures exceeding 400 ºC , if possible in air (even though the systems are designed for use in vacuum). The development/study of these coatings involved the following steps: Production of the individual layers of W; AlSiNx; AlSiNxOy; AlSiOx with different sputter deposition conditions; Si and Al compounds were deposited by 3 targets with different Al/Si ratio; the depositions were performed under static or rotary regime. Production of SiO2 films by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Optical characterization of the individual layers through measures of transmittance and reflectance. Chemical characterization of the individual layers through EDS and XPS techniques. Design and deposition of multilayer coatings through knowledge of the optical constants of the individual layers. Optical characterization of the multilayer coatings, determination of the solar absorption and emissivity coefficients. Morphological and structural characterization of these multilayer coatings by XRD and SEM techniques. Performance evaluation of the coatings through durability tests (heat treatment in air at 400 °C, in vacuum at 600 °C and in a humid atmosphere >95%RH at 40 °C). Multilayer coatings were successfully developed with an solar absorption coefficient of about 95% and an emissivity of 7% (at 100 ºC). The durability tests results indicate that these coatings will have a long life at the defined operating conditions. It was found that within the Al/Si ratios studied, the increase of the Si content did not improve the performance of the multilayer coating, adversely affecting its optical properties and durability. W layer deposition and the substrate polishing is necessary for obtaining the desired properties. Positively the deposition regime (static vs. rotary) does not affect the properties of the coatings. |
