Abstract

This paper proposes a strategy for implementing an experimental interface prototype by analyzing the development of Searchling, an experimental visual interface produced at the University of Alberta. Using Searchling as a lens, the paper categorizes the role of each contributor in the implementation process, defines the ideal conditions for implementation, and outlines the steps taken by the Searchling team to make implementation progress when conditions were less than ideal.
