Abstract
In October 2014, a new Privacy Bill was introduced in the Belgian Federal Parliament. The Bill mainly aims at providing the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA) with stronger enforcement capabilities and ensuring that Belgian citizens regain control over their personal data. To achieve this, certain new measures are being proposed to be included in the existing legislation, adopted already in 1992, as inspired by the proposed European data protection Regulation. According to Belgium’s State Secretary for Privacy, Bart Tommelein (Flemish Liberal Party), the Bill is soon to be adopted. In second order, the opinion of the Belgian Privacy Commission on the use of cloud services in hospitals is discussed.
