Abstract: In experimental conditions this research was realized, growth, structure and integrity of horse hoof were studied with the use of different supplementary levels of biotin. The subjects were 1 to 2 years old. The experiment was developed trough a completely casual design; each treatment had eigth repetitions and the hoof was considered as the experimental unit. The horses diet was supplemented with 10 mg biotin/day (T2); 20 mg biotin/day (T3) and 40 mg biotin/day (T4). The control group (T1) received the regular concentrate, without supplementation of that vitamin. The growth, structure and the integrity of the hoofs were evaluated. Horn samples were assessed for the level of crude protein after the last hoof trimming. After 90 days with the different treatments and with the experiment finished, the following results were obtained: there was a significative reductions (P < 0,01) of growth in T4, when compared to other treatments (T1, T2 e T3). Also T4 had a better hoof integrity than T1, which improved from the beginning of the treatment. Finally, T4 also showed best hoof conditions. There was no significative variation in the level of crude protein in the hoofs wall samples. The "stratum medium" of the wall produced more keratin tubules/mm2 and more intertubular keratin on T4. Showing a good fitting between the inner and outer stratum, leading to a more compact structure.
