Abstract: The soybean crop has great importance in the world agricultural scenario, but its productive potential can be significantly reduced by the attack of insect-pests. Factors such as the expansion of agriculture, widespread adoption of no-till farming and the cultivation of "safrinha" corn have contributed to the increase of secondary species such as Diceraeus (Dichelops) melacanthus (Dallas, 1851) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), which find good development conditions (shelter and feeding) throughout the year. Despite not causing severe damage in soybean, D. melacanthus has been growing in numbers in this crop and it becomes necessary for the producer to use efficient and sustainable management methods when possible and necessary. In the 2019 crop, there was the launch of the block® soybean that gives the plants resistance of the bed bug tolerance type (plants have less reduction in production when compared to others without this technology in the same growing conditions). However, it is still considered a relatively new technology and was developed targeting the brown bug (Euschistus heros (Fabricius, 1794) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), a key pest in this crop, and there is not much information in the literature about its performance against other species and also about other possible types of resistance that may be involved. Therefore, the objective of this work was to characterize the feeding behavior of D. melacanthus in tolerant (BRS 391, BRS 543RR, BRS 1003IPRO) and susceptible (BRS 388RR) cultivars, through the technique of Electropenetrography (EPG) and comparative biology studies to verify the existence of possible mechanisms of antixenosis and antibiosis. The results of the EPG indicated that the Block® cultivars had more time for feeding activities such as xylem ingestion and endosperm feeding. However, in general, the insects spent more time to insert and penetrate the stipes in the tolerant cultivars, especially BRS 543RR, when compared to the susceptible cultivar, indicating the possibility of antixenotic resistance related to the thickness of the cell layer. The results of the comparative biology studies showed marked differences in egg viability, with susceptible cultivars showing egg viability higher than 80% and tolerant cultivars less than 40%, suggesting the existence of antibiosis resistance.
