Abstract
This thesis is a non-linear memoir and travelogue tracking the narrator’s experiences moving to central China, joining the mixed community of fellow expats and Chinese locals, and meeting his wife, a fellow Chinese ESL teacher. While the main focus is on the narrator’s experiences between September, 2007 an October, 2009, events that occurred before and after these dates are included to provide context of the narrator’s decision to move to China, and the effects that move had following the initial two-year period living in China.
