Dry Running Bellows Type Tandem Seals For VOC Services
Abstract
Dry running bellows seal technology, where the secondary (outer) seal operates in a dry condition, was originally developed in the UK and Europe for protection against primary seal failure. Over the past three years, it has been successfully applied to the United States to control volatile organic compound (VOC) and volatile hazardous air pollutant (VHAP) emissions. A history of development, a description of the unique bellows seal design, and a summary of the widespread application of this technology by the U.S. refiner as presented. Statistical data for performance, reliability, and relative cost are presented.
