Abstract

We study the problem of superconductivity in the canonical ensemble which applies to recent experiments on metallic nanoparticles. Spectral properties which can be expressed as universal functions allow a quantitative characterization of the crossover to ``superconductivity'' in finite metallic systems. Parity effects in the ground state and excitation spectrum are discussed. We discuss the thermodynamic quantities as well. The susceptibility for odd grains shows a reentrant behavior with temperature. This behavior may be an observable signature of superconducting correlations in ultrasmall grains.
