This paper explores the novels of P.G. Wodehouse from the perspective of the speech act of persuasion. It also draws on classical Aristotelian categories (ethos, pathos, logos) to show how Wodehouse's characters are persuaded to perform various actions against their will. From the perspective of Kecskes (2016) and his theories of interactional pragmatics, light is shown on features of conversational interaction such as implicit/explicit meanings and salience.
