Girolamo De Rada (1814–1903) is a central figure in the Arbëreshe literature, a promoter and a pathfinder of the Rilindja movement. He produced a large literary work. The importance of knowing his particular and deep work refers to the need of recovering in critical edition, with transliteration into the modern Albanian alphabet, the texts of his works. These texts are translated by the author himself and this means to pay a particular attention to the Italian version, for highlighting the problems of Italian translation, known as self-translation, or as a process of recreation and rewriting.

Abstract

Girolamo De Rada (1814–1903) is a central figure in the Arbëreshe literature, a promoter and a pathfinder of the Rilindja movement. He produced a large literary work. The importance of knowing his particular and deep work refers to the need of recovering in critical edition, with transliteration into the modern Albanian alphabet, the texts of his works. These texts are translated by the author himself and this means to pay a particular attention to the Italian version, for highlighting the problems of Italian translation, known as self-translation, or as a process of recreation and rewriting.
