Abstract
In this literature review the author explores how individuals lose and regain hope. The literature review begins with a definition of hope which provides a framework for the in-depth exploration of the concept. The author then builds upon a hope framework developed from Farran, Herth, & Popovich (2005), identifying hope as a spiritual and transcendent process, as a rational thought process, and as a relational process. The author then presents a section on implications for practice and presents a case study as an example of practical applications of working with hope.
