This paper builds on current research that shows that a museum can be analyzed as a rhetorically significant space and which expands the definition of rhetoric to include physical building sites as persuasive texts. Through the analysis of specific museum galleries, this paper explores how LACMA constructs cultural identity and creates a ritualized experience for the museum visitor. By creating museum exhibits dedicated to national identity, LACMA moves visitors to consider their own identity and their national identity. How the museum experience can be used in an educational setting is also included in order to provide practical application within a pedagogical context.
