Polycystine radiolarians were studied in two box cores (ERDC 123Bx and ERDC 129Bx) from the Western equatorial Pacific Ocean (approx. 1°S, 161°E), sampled at 3cm intervals from top (ca. 0 to 4000-6000 YBP) to bottom (approx. 16 000 and 40 000 YBP, respectively). A total of 141 taxa were identified. Radiolarian assemblages were qualitatively and quantitatively (relative abundances) very similar, both between cores and between samples; Octopyle stenozona/Tetrapyle octacantha was by far the most abundant form at all levels, followed in decreasing proportions by Tholospyris spp., Stylodictya multispina, Botryocyrtis scutum, and Didymocyrtis tetrathalamus. -from Author
