Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is one of the most common diseases in our environment. Nowadays there are several methods to assess the disease. One widely used pulmonary test is the DLCO. The DLNO is a modification of this test and has several advantages over the DLCO.
Objective: To find the relationship between COPD severity determined by post-bronchodilator FEV1 and BODEX and pulmonary diffusion tests.
Material and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on 43 subjects diagnosed with COPD, performing a DLCO test and a DLNO test on each of them.
Results: The DLNO diffusion test only yielded reproducible values in 20 patients, so only these patients will be considered for the analysis of this variable. Spearman's coefficient showed significant correlations between the BODEx index and the DLNO/DLCO ratio (value < .05) and the DLCO, KCO, DLNO and KNO parameters (value < .01). On the other hand, a significant correlation was observed between the FEV1% index and pulmonary diffusion tests (pvalue < .05).
Conclusion: After classifying patients according to severity with conventional and new lung diffusion tests, the relationship between these variables and the BODEx index and FEV1% can be confirmed.
