Orbiter/Space lab momentum management for POP orientationsAn angular momentum management scheme applicable to the orbiter/spacelab is described. The basis of the scheme is to periodically maneuver the vehicle through a small angle thereby using the gravity gradient torque to dump momentum from the control moment gyro (CMG) control system. The orbiter is operated with its principal vehicle axis perpendicular to the orbital plane. Numerous case runs were conducted on the hybrid simulation and representative cases are included.
