Antagningen till högskolestudier - betyg eller konjunktur? En empirisk analys om betygsinflationens effekter på universitet och högskolor i Sverige.
Admission to universities and colleges – grades or business cycle?
Abstract
This study examines the relationship between average admission points to universities and colleges and average Swedish upper secondary school graduation rate, with control variables for youth unemployment and population volume for cohorts. By analyzing data for final grades, national test results, admission statistics, unemployment, and population volume for cohorts, this is tested. Furthermore, a panel data analysis with a fixed effects model is used. This statistical approach involves the use of different explanatory variables in separate analyzes, but within the same model. Thus, it can be established that admission is influenced by a number of different factors. It is not possible to reject that grade inflation does not have an effect, but there are other distinguishable factors with greater effects.
