The article offers an examination of the transmission, attribution, and contents of the only two Latin sermons certainly devoted to the Feast of Mid-Pentecost. Their attribution to Peter Chrysologus, the fifth-century bishop of Ravenna, is more secure for the first (serm. 85) of these than for the second (serm. 85bis). The article goes on to propose an earlier origin for the feast of Mid-Pentecost than for he Feast of the Ascension on the fortieth day: in times and places where the Ascension was celebrated on the fiftieth day, it makes sense to introduce a midpoint into the fifty-day celebration, while it is more difficult to imagine doing so where the Ascension was already celebrated on the fortieth day
