Presentation of the figure of Johann Ernst Hanxleden (1681-1732), a German Jesuit missionary who became famous in Kerala, under the name of Arnos Padiri, as a Christian Malayalam poet, and who also showed a deep interest for the Hindu traditions of the local brahmins by composing a Sanskrit grammar and studying Sanskrit texts, providing us a quite unique example of combination of devotional Christianity and Pre-Indology in early 18th c. South-India.
