Mobility and transport account for between 15 and 20% of the pollutant emissions on earth per year (National Geographic, 2021). A transition is therefore needed to improve today's mobility. Smart mobility can help to tackle the current mobility issues. First, this master thesis presents a literature review of the concept of smart mobility. Then, it describes how this concept is implemented in the Brussels-Capital Region and two other well-performing cities: Amsterdam and Barcelona. The analysis is made through three big segments of drivers: technical solutions, technological resources and city governance. It was carried out by conducting one-to-one interviews with people from the mobility sector in the three cities analyzed. Finally, the aim is to make recommendations in terms of mobility to the Brussels-Capital Region, inspired by the best practices of Amsterdam and Barcelona. In summary, these recommendations are about: parking, cycling, communication and sensibilisation, Smart Mobility Lab and private initiatives, political courage.
