Abstract
Broadband coherent light sources are on demand for a wide variety of applications, and supercontinuum generation is one of the most promising methods in realizing such light sources. In this chapter, we present recent investigations on the development of AlN integrated photonic platform for supercontinuum generation in the visible spectrum. AlN exhibits broadband transparency from ultraviolet (UV) to infrared wavelengths and has relative low material dispersion due to its wide bandgap, which is ideal for nonlinear optical applications in the visible spectrum. This chapter reviews recent developments on the AlN integrated photonic platform from various aspects including material characterizations, device fabrications, numerical modeling, and octave-spanning supercontinuum generation in the visible spectrum.
