Abstract
Product design methodology has been redefined to face the new challenges imposed by today?s markets, highlighted by the rapid increase in technology and the low live span of the current trends. To overcome the new challenges, the development has now pivoted from a waterfall approach into an iterative one. This new approach will minimize the development risks, the time to marker, and also, allows obtaining more feedback from the customers, resulting in a more marketable final design. This project focuses on the electronic design and validation of the control electronics required for managing the airflow and distance of a commercial product. As part of the market trends commented earlier, the new design is part of product iteration, implying that there is a base design which needs to be modified to support the new functionality. The scope of this document only focuses on the electronic design, although the complete project was part of a multidisciplinary team effort composed mainly, but not exclusively of electronic, firmware and mechanical engineers. The contents mentioned on this document focus mainly on the initial phase of the complete product development. The project starts from the initial support required for the concept testing prototypes, continues with the electronic design and implementation, and finishes with the final testing and validation of this design.
For a printer oriented to the graphics market, such retail and posters, it is critical that we achieve precision while delivering the ink to any media. The printing distance control and the airflows in the printing area are precisely oriented to this effort. The scope of this project is to design the control electronics for these subsystems up to the point of integrating the designed board on a printer prototype.
