Abstract: A major goal of the J ̈ulich Electric Dipole moment Investigations (JEDI) collaboration is tomeasure the permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of a proton. This shall be done ina dedicated storage ring which needs electric bending elements. Since no electric bendingelements are currently available that can deliver the wanted strength and quality of theelectric field they have to be developed and tested. In this thesis measurements are presented with small electrodes at small distances. Thesemeasurement shall show the different behaviour of different materials and coatings at highelectric fields. The maximum field strengths that can be achieved with these small electrodesare given and extrapolated to larger distances which are in the region of what will be usedin the storage ring.
