Este artículo pretende considerar los alcances del aporte teórico realizado por el antropólogo noruego Fredrik Barth en el campo de la antigüedad griega. Para hacer esto, estudiamos la tradición historiográfica sobre el tema desde el siglo XIX. Buscamos identificar desarrollos realizados y explicaciones formuladas sobre el problema de los procesos identitarios y la etnicidad en el mundo griego, apuntando a reconocer los cambios, las continuidades y las transformaciones. Para llevar a cabo esto, se presta debida atención a la influencia ejercida por los contextos históricos e institucionales. Esto nos permite comprender la particularidad de las condiciones académicas en las cuales se produjo la recepción de la obra del antropólogo noruego a partir del último cuarto del siglo XX.
This article attempts to evaluate the scope of the theoretical perspective developed by the Norwegian anthropologist Fredrik Barth in the academic field of Greek antiquity. In order to do this we study the historiographical tradition on the subject matter since the nineteenth century. We seek to identify developments made and explanations given on the problem of processes of identity and ethnicity in the Greek world, in order to recognize changes, continuities and transformations. To accomplish this aim we pay due attention to the influence played by historical and institutional contexts. This allows us to understand the specific academic conditions in which it has been produced the receipt of the work of the Norwegian anthropologist from the last quarter of twentieth century.
