Abstract
This postcard, from a painting by Patricia Lechemere Guppy, shows a creole woman cooking over a coal pot, a dutch oven or small charcoal burning stove, which was used by housewives to cook meals in Trinidad and Tobago before the advent of the stove or cooker of today. Printed on the postcard are the creole words "Fannin' de coal-pot", which simply mean getting the fire going.
