NOTE: This is a Tableau visualization.
My visualization presents trending YouTube video statistics from 2018. This is an interactive visualization where users can select specific categories of YouTube videos and view pareto charts and other visuals of top channels by view counts and their behavior over time. Category comparisons can be made by selecting multiple categories through Ctrl + clicking. The channels themselves act as filters as you can click on each individual channel to view its seasonality and total views. Hovering over the visuals will allow you to see additional individual summary statistics. As an active user I was curious to know what videos were found commonly in the trending video based on YouTube’s selection algorithm. It was interesting to see that popular entertainment channels like the Ellen Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late-Night Show have continued to dominate media by also adapting to an online platform. It was also interesting to see that Childish Gambino was able to hit the top of the views chart this year with only a single video. I hope audience members can pick out some interesting insights from this visualization.
