In the present work studies on autobiographical narratives of children and adolescents are reviewed in order to assess methods of narrative analysis. Sixty studies conducted in the decade 1992-2002 were examined. The theoretical model proposed by Lieblich, Tuval-Mashiach e Zilber (1998) was adopted to classify methodologies. This model distinguish between content versus formal analysis and between holistic versus categorical approaches. Intersecting these two dimensions a matrix of four cells results: holistic-form, categorical-form, holistic-content and categorical-content. Methods assessed were therefore classified in these four categories, also operating more fine distinctions between those belonging to the same cell. Advantages and problems of each type of methodology were underlined, referring particularly to interpretive problems. Connections between methods and aims of investigation were proposed. Abstract
