Abstract:
The inhabitation of infiltrated spaces; the post perspectival space seeks to redefine the ways in which we inhabit and interact within our environment, digital or built. The essence of inhabitation is the home. The boundaries of natural and artificial have become indistinct with the presence of the machine age, there has become a sense of ambiguity. There is no longer a promise of a protective 'bubble like' house, futurism gives way to a spatio - mental reconstructions implied by cyberspace. Communicative and digital technologies, hand in hand with consumerism is viewed as an micro-organism invading the home, such technologies are temporal in nature and ever evolving, there is a voyeuristic approach to space and objects. Post-Perspectival space, describes the continual emersion of oneself within the world of cyberspace. Cyberspace has erupted into the spaces we conduct our everyday lives within. The seductive nature of the technological up-rise; the digital media and networks, is pulsating at such a rate architecture can no longer remain apathetic towards it. Contemporary architecture is challenged by the presence of the 'n-dimension'. The 'home' will be the site for the most dramatic change of all, whilst the urban condition continues to become cohesive, the buildings and urban scape works through us rather than between us. Dichotomies of interior space are radically shifting; the experience is being altered and guided by the imposition of technology. The homeowner is viewed as the 'user' as we seek to produce architecture of an adaptable nature. How does the infiltration of hyper-technology into the architectural dimension impact on the inhabitation of space? How can we understand space differently to inform our inhabitation?
