Abstract The present study is performed to clarify the structure, explanatory elements, trends and references of campus master plans. The campus master plans studied were from 44 universities in the U.S., Cana...da, Australia and U.K. The results were as follows; 1)Campus master plans consist of an introduction, discussion of the existing setting, targets/policies, plans and application, and can be classified into expansion, element-oriented and task-oriented types. Master plan components can be classified into ten categories: existing setting, land use, space, access, campus image, infrastructure, community relations, facilities, environment and other. 2)References include drawings, photographs, sketches and tables. The contents of the references are historical documents(regional), historical documents(university), articles, geographic data, regional data, existing setting, analysis, concept, plan and details. 3)Expression elements of the references can be classified into 10 groups and 31 categories.show more
