Repaired house Suji, Manoj

Description

Many houses that were repaired immediately after the earthquake because the inhabitants needed to use them do not follow the new government earthquake resistant building guidelines, as they were not released until 8 months after the earthquake. This building has been constructed on top of old walls without the suggested horizontal bands. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
