The east face of the White Pagoda (Baita 白塔) Van Cutsem, Laurent; Luo, Yuqing

Description

The pictures show the east side of the White Pagoda (Baita 白塔) in Hangzhou (杭州), which is usually dated from the 10th century. The images were recorded from the base to the last storey of the Pagoda. The Pagoda is comprised of: (1) the foundations (details can refer to other records in Cluster 2.2_2019), (2) the base, with the inscriptions of the dharanis, (3) the nine storeys, each having reliefs with various representations and inscriptions, and (4) the top structure of the Pagoda (details can refer to other records in Cluster 2.2_2019). The pagoda is octagonal in shape.
