Abstract
The late Upper Devonian proetid Perliproetus is reconsidered with respect to its systematic affiliation, palaeoecological distribution and spatio-temporal occurrences. The material from Kallenhardt, hitherto considered conspecific with the type species marginatus from Schübelhammer, is assigned to the new species Perliproetus kallenhardtensis. The first occurrence of the genus in North Africa is documented by a second new species, P. africanus. New information is given in the appendix on two of the species hitherto included in Perliproetus, P. gradatus and P.? muensteri. The former is reassigned to Winterbergia (Eowinterbergia?), and its previously unknown cephalic features are described, and the latter is synonymised with the phacopid Nephranops incisus.
