Kurzfassung
Der vorliegende Beitrag widmet sich dem expandierenden Phänomen der Freiwilligenarbeit in Tansania aus der Perspektive von Entsendeorganisationen mit Sitz in Deutschland. Ein Dutzend Anbieter entsprechender Programme konnte im Zeitraum von 12/2010 bis 01/2011 mittels eines teilstandardisierten Erhebungsbogens zum Marktgeschehen befragt werden. Es zeigt sich, dass den Volontären ein mannigfaltiges Themenspektrum, das von Bildungsaktivitäten bis hin zu Naturschutzprojekten reicht, offensteht. Die übergeordnete Motivation der Entsendeorganisationen liegt darin, die Entwicklungszusammenarbeit und den interkulturellen Austausch zwischen Deutschland und Tansania zu unterstützen. Gleichwohl sind die Einrichtungen mit einer Zunahme von egozentrischen Bedürfnissen seitens der Volontäre konfrontiert, die dem altruistischen Grundgedanken der Freiwilligenarbeit zuwiderlaufen. Dieser Umstand wiederum tangiert das Selbstverständnis der Entsendeorganisationen.
Abstract
The article draws attention to several characteristics of volunteering in Tanzania. As the number of providers rises, this niche market is still in the process of growth. Due to this, the paper deals with the perspective of sending organizations, which are located in Germany and promoting Tanzania as a destination region. To get a deeper insight a questionnaire was designed and distributed between 12/2010 and 01/2011. In total, 12 agencies replied to the questionnaire. It is shown, that the activities and projects of volunteering take place in wide ranging areas like economic and social progress, medical assistance, scientific research or cultural restoration. The overall aim of the involved organizations is to support development cooperation and intercultural exchange. Nevertheless the agencies have to face an increase of non-altruistic motives in volunteering, so that the self-concepts are up for discussion.
