Abstract

The Arafura swamp and catchment is located in NE Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, about 450 km east of Darwin. Prior to the 1970’s there had been few biological records reported from the region. Since then, there have been over 8,000 records of vertebrate fauna recorded and almost 30,000 plant records including the results of this survey. This report presents the known composition of the flora and vertebrate fauna in the Arafura swamp and catchment from previous records and field work carried out between 1998 and 2000. The document provides a biogeographical over view, looks at the conservation significance of the region and recommendations for future management.,
