PARALYSIS. Mr. HALSE, the MEDICAL GALVANIST, of 22, Brunswick-square, London, earnestly recommends in- valids and gentlemen of the medical profession, to peruse the following. It cannot but surprise them, and prove to them the all but miraculous powers of Galvanism, when applied in a scientific manner, and with an efficient apparatus. The following case is, perhaps, as remarkable a one as could be selected, as showing the powers of Galvanism, after every medicine, and almost every medical practitioner in Devonshire, had been tried in vain; and as ibe truth of it is witnessed by a distinguished clergyman of the Established Church, there can one would suppose,be no donbt in any one's mind as to its ac- curacy. Wheo the patient was brought to Mr. H.,his wife told him that she could not believe that Galvanism or anything else could possibly restore him lor his complaint had been standing so long, and he was in such a weak stale, that it would be pre- sumptuous to expect any benefit, particularly as he had tried the most celebrated physicians in Devonshire, and still daily con- tinued to get woise. She also stated, that her friends hlamed her very much for removing him from his home but she could not help it Her hushand had heard of such extraordinary cures made by Mr. H. in his complaint, that galvanized he would be, in spite of everything. His medical man was quite angry with, him for thinking of such a thing; and when his friends were carrying bim from his house to the carriage, every one appeared to be convinced that they should never see him alive any more. But, notwithstanding all the difficulties he had to contend with he was determined, and insisted upon being galvanized. The following letter, which he sent to the editor of the Exeter Fly- ing Post," will prove the result:— OUGHT NOT GALVANISM TO BE MORE GENERALLY RESORTED TO? A letter to the Editor of the Flying Post," by one who lia derived immense benefit from the power of the Galrani ApC- parafuB :— MR. EDITOB,— A few weeks oince, I noticed a paragraph by you, stating that Galvanism ought to be more generally em- ployed. I beg to state, that 1 am precisely of the same opinion, for I have witnessed its astonishing effects in a number of cases, and its power has been tried practically ul,on myself, with the happiest results. In that paragraph I was most happy to find favourable mention of Mr. Halse's name. All that you have said of him, and even more, is his due; indeed, for my- self I have cause to bless the day that I first placed myself under his care. Now, Sir, my case was a most deploiable one, C r 1 had not the least use of either arm or leg,—they hung h ut me like as if they did not belong to me, and the strength a(° i s was insufficient to support the weight of my body, of nurse 1 could not stand and if you had offered me a k C and guineas to move either hand but one inch from the i°U» where it might have been placed, I could not have done it; V^ii» least command had I over my limbs. My complaint waa "° oH bv a blow in the back. Well, as before siaied, 1 placed mvself under Mr. Halse's galvanic treatment. I had been led to ?• ve (hat it was a dreadful operation to go through, but I <.« atrreeahly surprised that there was no unpleasantness at all Whnut it not even enough to make a child cry, so beautifully does M, Hals" manage his battery. In three days, Sir, I could lanfi QDooniy lcg9» an^ io ooe week, I could walk about the stand upon my g oartially recovered the use of my 11011 '"d six weeks, I could walk several miles in a day ""I The least assistance. HAINES & SONS, Pump House Colliery, Great Bridge, near Dudley. Mr. W. PEDLET, of Birming-liam. December 26M. 1850. "We have now in use a Pump Bucket which has been attached to one of om Pumps 26 months, and during that time worked full 13 months, on what is called half time. It is as sound now as when first put in, and we expect it to wear at least two years more. Owing to an aocident in one of the Pump Buckets about a month ago, we were obliged to have recourse to a leather one, and it ivas completely worn out in three -wee/is." From Mr. C. THOMAS, Dolcoath Mine, Camborne. January 27th, 185J. Three Gutta Percha 12-inch pit boxes, (or Pump Buckets) drawing watci %7|~feet stroke, have been used and worn out in this mine, and I beg to inform you. that they have lasted on an average six weeks each, giving double the average wear cf leatlwr boxes, (or buckets). This alone is important in saving time and cost of changing boxes, especially in long lifts, and Gutta Percha requiring no nails for gearing, the working pieces will doubtless last much loiter. On the whole, :we much prefer Gutta Percha to leather for boxes. SYPHONS FOR MINES. From Mr. A. CROSFIELD, Ty Maur Colliery, nr. Ponty-pridd. The Gutta Percha Pipe used as a Syphon for drawing water from a deep heading at these works, answers admirably; and although the pipe is so small, it is surprising the quantity of water passing through it. I consider that Gutta Percha Piping may be applied in Mines and Collieries to very valuable purposes, and is especially adapted to be used on the syphon principle. GUTTA PERCHA MINERS' CAPS. SIR,-ln consideration of the greatbenefit I have derived from taking Frampton's Pill of Health, I feel it a duty that I owe to you and the public to send 50U the following statement. For upwards of nine years I have experienced the efficacy of this excellent medicine. I had long previously been atflioted with headache and indigestion, but a triend having induced me to make a trial of Frampton's Pills. I now inform you that a few doses gave me great relief; and during this long period of time I have taken them in preference to any other medicine and I have the happiness of saying that I never had a better state of health, which I attribute to Frampton's Pills. I beg further to add, that this medicine is in general use by my family, and we know of nothing to equal it. I am, sir, yours respectfully, "THOMAS PROVENCE. To Mr. T. Prout, 229, Strand, London." These pills are particularly efficacious for stomach coughs, colds, agues, shortness of breath, and all obstructions of the urinary passages and, if taken after too free an indulgence at table, they quick ly restore the system to its natural stateof repose. Persons ot a FULL HA BIT, who are subject to head-ache, giddiness, drowsiness, and singing in the ears, arising fr,'m too great a flow of blood to the head, should never be without them. as many dangerous symptoms will be entirely carried off by their immediate use. For F EM ALES, these pills are most troly excellent, removing all obstructions, the distressing head-ache so very prevalent with the sex; depressiop of spirits, dulness of si^ht, nervous affections, blotches, pimples, and sallowness of the skin, and give a healthy and juvenile bloom to the complexion. To MOTHERS they are confidelltlyrecommended as the best medicine that can be taken during pregnancy and for children of all ages they are unequalled. As a pleasant, sare, and easy aperient, they unite the recom- mendation of a mild operation with the most successful effect, and require no restraint of diet, or confinement during their use. By regulating the dose, acoording to the age and strength of the patient, they become suitable for every case, in either sex, that can be required; and for ELDERLY PEOPLE they will he found to be the most comfortable medicine hitherto prepared. Gentlemen,—For the last three winters Mrs. Cupiss has felt a great delicacy of the chest, accompanied with occasional pain, cough, and hoaiseness. Having had your valuable Bath Plasters recommended to her, she made tiial of one, and ii was attended with the most beneficial effect, in consequence of which she has made frequent nse of them, and invariably with the same good results. She came spontaneously to thank me, and said she would write you a letter. Yours, respectfully, Chester, October 23rd,1850. H PLATT. Communicated oy C. Parsons. Postmaster. To Messrs. Roper and Son. Sheffield,—Sim,—1 think it my duty to inform you that it is now about four years since I introduced your Royal Bath Plaster to the inhabitants of Princes Ris- brough and its vicinity. In the course of 'hat time I have sold some dozens of them and I have the satisfaction of informing you that in every case where they have been fairly tried, they have proved beneficial, particularly among children. We have one lady in the neighbourhood who keeps a few constantly by her. I have applied them to my own children in hooping cough, and the result was highly gratifying so much so, that I sent for a quantity, and strongly recommended them to my neighbours, who were all well satisfied, and, in many cases truly thankful, f apologise for thus troubling you with this note, but I think that such a valuable remedy cannotbe loo highly extolled. I am, sirs, yours, respectfully. CHARLRS PARSONS. Post-office, Princes Risbrough, Jan. 6, 1851. P.S.-You are at liberty to nnite any use you please of this or the advancement of the plaster. WONDERFUL CURE OF COUGH. Sheffield, Nov. 5th, 1850. Sirs,—From a feeling of gratitude to you, and duty to the pub. lic, I wish to bear my testimony in favour of your invaluable Roper's Plasters and Pills. I have been afflicted for years with a bad cough, brought on by repeated colds. I was also afflicted with pain in thestomach, sickness, loss of appetite, &c. I some times thought I had three sorts of cough at the same time one attacked the other, and then it was dreadful. I could not lie down, but was forced to sit up coughing until life seemed to be nearly Rone. When I was suffering thus, a friend advised me to try your Roper's Plasters and Pills, aad the following day j procured one box of pills and one plaster, and. to the astonish- ment of ail that knew me, I was restored to health again. Extract from the Medical Gazette and Times.—" Fortunately for our country, a more efficient (because certain) mode of treat- ing those deplorable complaints, is at last introduced and we hail the time as not far distant when such diseases shall be com- paratively unheaid of; we would earnestly recommend all persons afflicted with any kind of generative derangement, to avail them- selves of the information contained in almost every page of Dr De Roos' work, which we unhesitatingly pronounce the best extant." "This is a work of superlaiive excellence, and one we should recommend to tl:e perusal of all; in fact, the information therein conveyed is quite essential to those of either sex who contem- plate marriage."—Record. Many a man, who, unniariied and miserable, is now enduring in silent sorrow the penalties of former folly (perhaps committed in ignorance), had he possessed such a book as this, would have been a happy husband, a honoured parent, and useful member of society."—B. Dispatch, January 19. 1 he dithdence and fearof exposure, consequent on these affec- tions, frequently prevent persons applying for assistance, until great mischief has been inflicted on the constitution and powers of life. It is hoped the perusal of this work will leach such persons the evils of delay, and lead them at once to seek that as- sistance which alone can save them from the horrors of an ex- istence protracted amidst long-enduring wretchedness, both menial and physical. Lasting benefit can only be reasonably expected at the hands of the intelligent and practical physician, who, departing from the routine of general practice, devotes the whole of his studies to this class of disease, the lamentable neglect of which by ordinary medical men, and their futile attempts at cure by mer- cury and other equally dangerous medicines, have produced the most alarming results. From the great extent of Dr. De Iloos' practice for many years, and his former connection with the various institutions, both in London and Paris, for the relief of those afflicted with debility, syphilis, secondary symptoms, strictures, gleet, vene- real and scorbutic eruptions, &c., <Scc., ol the face and body, he has had perhaps unusual facilities for observing the peculiarities and consequences of each particular stage. Hence he is enabled confidently and conscientiously to undertake the removal 01 every symptom (not excepting the most inveterate or long standing) in as shortatime as is consistent with sa.ety, or return the money. THE fine balsamic and invigoarting powers of this Me- T dicine art wonderful; a trial of a siogle dose will carry a conviction that they are all that ill necessary to invigorate the feeble, restore the invalid to health, and do good in all cases, The heads of families should always have them in the house, as they may, with the greatest confidence, be resorted to at any time or in any case. lndigestion.-It must be borne in mind, that indigestion is caused by a foul and bad st'ite of the Stomach, and a morbid action of the liver and biliary organs, and is the primary cause of more than half our disorders. The.e pills must be taken three pills atbed time, and two before breakfast, and continued. for a month or six weeks; this will restore the stomach to a clean and healthy state, and produce a natural action of the liver- Gout, Rheumatism, Rheumatic Gout, &;c.—The exciting caus s of these complaints may betractdto any general derangement of the system; frequent sources of their appearance are, Colds, Bruises, Sprains, free indulgence in wine, spirits, and highly-spiced foods: it is, however an established fact, that in nine cases out of ten it is hereditary, thus proving, that befoie a cure can be effected a total change of the system must be pro- duced. The powerfully-invigoraling and alterative properties of Parr's Life Pills, will, by a few weeks perseverance, in taking 2 or 3 daily at dinner, infallibly produce this happy change. Nervous Affectiolls.-This class embraces a wide rnnge, and the unhappy sutterers endure more anguish, and receive less pity from those around them, than from any other class of disorders this in some measure may be accounted for simply because the symptoms are not ;>0 strongly defined as in other disorders indeed in somecases no symptoms are recognised, and. therefore the hasty conclusion is jumped at, that all the ailments of the patient are imaginaiy, and not worthy of notice. there is no class 01 diseases lequiiitig more kindness and care. Two or three of Parr's invaluable pills will speedily reanimate the spirits, improve the digestive powers, and restore the whole nervous system to a happy and natural state. Liver Complaints, Jaundice, &LC.—The whole host of disorders denominated Liver Complunts, may be attributed to cold- anxiety-wønt of exercise-spirituous drinks -excessive use of mercury, &c., these causes act powerfully on ihe Liver, and obstruct the due performance of its natural functions and secre tions, and the healthy action of the liver is of such vital impor tance to the general health, that there interruptions, 11 not at ended fO, too often terminate fatally. Should Jaundice occur it serves to remove dl doubts witb respect to this disease. Two or three P, rr's Life pills every night for a few weeks, will restore the patient to perfect health, The causes of these diseases are before specified, which, as a matter of course, should be carefu!ly avoided. Cases of the above description have all been cured simply by the USJ of PA ltit'S LIFE PILLS, thus showing That whathas been considered different disorders, and reqtiirinR different treat- ment, all otisinated in the s?me cause, and can be cured by one unifoim treatment. PA Ril'S LIFE PILLS, although powerlul in conqueiing disease, yet are as pure and harmless as new milk, and m ty be administered with confidence to the invalid, however weakly from long ill health, who will soon enjoy those delightful symptoms of a return to stroog health, viz., good appetite, sound sleep, and an increase of animal spirits. AN IMPORTANT TESTIMONIAL. From G. Lewis, Esq., of the Oriental Bank, of London addressed To the Editor of the Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald. DEAR Sm,—I feel it my boundeo duty to make known to my beloved countrymen, and the Public generally, the great benefit I received from the celebrated Cambrian pills, piepared by Robert laae Jones, Esq., Cambrian Pill Depôt, Tre' Madoc prescribed by my old neighbour, the eminent Dr. Roberts, Oakland. Llanrwst, whose immortal and ever-living name is endeared to all that knew him, and whose decease was the greatest calamity the surrounding country ever experienced, especially the poor. I had been for years troubled by indigestion, and paid immense sums of money to different doctors, and for different Pills but I could never get anything to render me the least benefit, until I heard of the celebrated Cambrian Pills, and determined to give them a trial and after taking a few boxes, I became strong and active, and as healthy as any man in the metropolis. I always keep these Pills in the house, for occasional use, and it is my decided opinion that no family should be without them, for they are the most excellent family medicine erer composed for they are the most excellent family medicine erer composed and offered to the public. I highly and conscientiously recommend the celebrated Cam- brian Pills to the world at large. and give the highest credit to the praiseworthy gentleman, R.I. Jones, Esq., foi hisunfatigued exertion and good service in bringing this great desideratum before his countrymen and the world. I am quite at a loss for beiter means to place this imperfect testimonial befoie the eyes of my beloved countrymen, than through the medium of your widely and extensively circulated journal. I am, dear Sir, yours very respectfully, GRIFFITH LEWIS. Oriental Bank, London, August 12th, 1850.
