The Welsh Farmers' Gazette Friday, March 4th, 1892. REVIEW OF THE BRITISH CORN TRADE. The year is generally seasonable, and the promise of growing wheat is excellent. The spring sowings look like being more extensive than usual. Farmers' dissatisfaction is mainly directed to prices, which during the month just closing have pursued a very discouraging course, mainly in consequence of the large supply of American flour. The London average is 33s. 2d., and shows 8d. decline upon the week. The price of foreign wheat has declined 6d. per quarter, the sales being smaller than expected, and continental inquiry slackening, especially for France, where the fall of the Government has weakened the markets by bringing to a standstill at once the schemes of the Protectionists for raising the duty, and the designs of the war party to stock the Eastern fortresses with two years' provision. The spring corn trade shows a larger number of firm markets than of exchange in buyer#' favour. Fine samples of English and German malting barley are scarce, and command attention, but grinding sorts are neglected. The English barley average is 7s. lOd. per cwt., and oats 7s. 2d. The latter is sup- ported in value, though nominally much undersold by maize. Beans are firmer than peas, which have arrived much more freely than the former stable. Mark Lane Express.

English flour was steady at the very moderate ptice accepted last week foreign flour with excessive arrivals declined 6d per rack. Barley was firmer from this day week, but prices were unaltered. Holders of oats have recovered from their scare about Russian exports, and the market is 3d bettet from last week. Beans and peas are not changed. Turkish rye is held for 40s, with 39-1 offeied. Malt is firm, but dull. Maize is selling more freely than a week ago. Currencies are not changed. BRADFORD WOOL.—The wool trade is IItill slug- gish and disappointing though prices are very low, buyers will not anticipate their requirements. Fine wools and crcsahreds are not active, whilst strong wools are greatly neglected. To day the general tone is no worse, though there is no perceptible improvements. Yarns and pieces show small miscellaneous business, and wool cansumers have no inducement to operate, the quantity of idle machinery being unusually large. WREXHAM CATTLE.—There was a good all-round supply of fat stock at to-day's market, calves and pigs being particularly numerous, and there was an ex- cellent trade. Beef made from 6d to 7d per lb, mutton up to :9d, and veal 7! per scote lbs. Ba.-on pigs realized 9s 6d to 10s per score lb3. There was only a slow demand for milch cows, the best not making more than fl6 each, and the trade in store beasts was also quiet. METROPOLITAN CATTLE, Monday.—There was a short supply of stock and and a clearance was not made. The British arrivals comprised 120 Scotch, 20 Irish, 400 Norfolk Suffolk, and Essex, and 350 Midland, Home and Western counties. A fair supply of sheep and trade steady. A few suckling calves on offer, but none fit for the retail butcher. Beef. 3s 2d to 4s lOd mutton. 4s Od to 5s Od; veal 03 OJ to Os Od and pork, 0s Od to Os Od. per 81 be. At market :—Beasts, 890 sheep, 7,710; calves, 10 and pigs 0. LONDON DEAD MEAT MARKET, Monday.— Moderate supplies, and trade slow. LEICESTER CATTLE, Saturday.—Improved at- tendance with larger consignments of stock, and a more satisfactoty trade was done. The demand for young stock was better, but prices ruled low. In-calf heifers made JE15 to JE17 per head milch cows, £18 to E22 per head bullocks, 910 to fl4 10s per head. Calves sold readily at 35s to 50s per head.

NORTH WALES BLACK CATTLE SOCIETY. The annual meeting of this society was held at Bangor on Friday, the 19th Feb., when there were present Colonel Henry Platt (in the chair), Messrs R. B. Smith, Tynewydd, Bangor E. Humphreys, Llan- beris J. R. Jones, Bodfeirig Thomas Roberts, Aber;, W. R. Lawford, Oswestry Captain Preston, Beau- maris and W. A. Dew, the hon sec. Letters of apology for non-attendance were read from Captain J. C. Best, Mr Henry Wiggin, M.P., and Mr H. Ellis, Tai'rmeibion. The Hon. Sec. had given notice of motion to rescind a resolution passed at a previous meeting limiting future entries to such animals as had either their sire or dam entered in one of the three volumes of Herd Books already published, or in ttxe fourth volume now in the press. In submitting his motion to rescind, Mr Dew argued that it was too soon to adopt such a step as he W,fS surd there were still several excellent herds of the Welsh Black Cattle breed which the society had not yet reached, and he hoped that another oppor- tunity would be given to the owners of such herds to register their cattle. The meeting now fully debated the subject, and it was resolved that the resolution be rescinded accordingly. Great satisfaction was felt that Chester would be honoured next year with a visit of the Royal Agri- cultural Show, and it was considered that a very special effort should be made by the North Wales Black Cattle Society to secure for this class of cattle due prominence at that show, and the hon. secretary was instructed to communicate with the Secretary of the Royal Agricuitural Society, and ascertain in what form, or tc what extent help from Wales would be ac- ceptable. It was resolved that two of the society's silver medals be again offered for competition this year at the Anglesey and Carnarvonshire Show, the Merion ethshire Shjw, and the Flintshire and Denbighshire Show, for the best male and best female black cattle, exhibited by and being the property of members of the North Wales Black Cattle Society, and entered in or for the Society's Herd Book. The following gentlemen were elected members of the society :—Mr H. R. Hep. Ciltalgarth, Bala Mr Griffith Roberts, Bodvel Hall, Pwllheli Mr Owen P. Jones, Plas Llechylched, Bryngwran Mr Henry Owen, Dolgoed, Corris; and Mr Henry Cocker, Bloom- field, Blackpool. The Council and various officers for the ensuing year were duly elected. The annual meeting next year will be held during February in Chester. ~A cordial vote of thanks to the Ch-airman concluded the meeting.

LOCAL LAW CASE. In the High Court of Justice Chancery Division, before Mr Justice North. EVANS V. JONES. On Friday last a motion was made for the trial of this action to be taken at Lampeter Assizes instead of in the Chancery Division. Mr Griffith Jones instructed by Mr A. J Hughes, of Aberystwyth, stated that an application had been made to his Lordship's Chief Clerk to order the case to be sent for tsial at Lampeter, but the Chief Clerk had refused the application. He (Mr Griffith Jones) now applied that that order should be discharged and that the case should be sent to the Assizes. The action was to try a right of way at New Quay along a street called Lewis-terrace The plaintiff alleged that the road was her private property, whereas the defendant said that it was a public highway open to the Queen's subjects, and he urged that there would be a number of wit- nesses on each side, and that it-would be a saving of expense to try the case in Cardiganshire. He also alleged that it would be necessary for the jury to have a view.—Mr Cozens Hardy, Q.C. and Mr Walker instructed by Mr C. E. Morris, of Carmarthen, appeared for the plaintiff to oppose the application and urged that the action was a Chancery action whereby the plaintiff asked for a declaration that the road was private property and for an injunction, and that if the application was granted it would apply to all Chancery actions. He denied that there would be a large number of witnesses to be called and that there had been delay in making the application, the case having been entered as far back as July la-t.- -Hill Lordship held that it was a case that ought to be tried at Lam- pp-ter as it would be a saving of expense to the parties. He accordingly discharged the Chief Clerk's order and directed the case to lie tried at the Lampeter Assizes with or without a jury as the Assize Judge might direct.
