Abstract
The following study has two purposes. The first is to examine key research concerning
the process of change in professional development of teachers. The second is to document
the experiences of a group of teachers who have made a voluntary attempt to implement the
use of computer technology in their classroom teaching for the year of 1996 to 1997.
Foothills School District is attempting to introduce new uses of computer technology in the
area of Language Learning for staff and students. The primary goal is to facilitate the
collaborative process of professional development with a focus on the integration of
computer technology in Language learning instruction from grade 6 to 12. Ideally, all
Language Learning teachers involved in the project, 10 teachers, will successfully change
their teaching to some degree and apply the new uses of computer technology in the
classroom. This study provides qualitative evidence of the process of change in
professional development. The knowledge provided is useful for teachers, administrators,
and school authorities as a point of reference for implementing change in their division.
