The land conservation act in Ventura county

The California land conservation act was passed in 1965 to preserve agricultural and open space lands from conversion to urban uses with preferential tax assessment. The act provides the legislative framework for local governments to enter contracts with land owners who voluntarily agree to restrict their lands to non-urban uses in return for a reduction in property taxes. In 1969, Ventura County adopted the Land Conservation Act in response to the rapid, haphazard conversion of prime Agricultural land to urban development. The effectiveness of the County land conservation Ac t program was evaluated on the basis of land quality and location of participating acreage in relation to the incorporated limits of expanding cities.
