Prevention of flood losses by a regulatory program

Flood damages can be prevented by the adoption of a regulatory flood plain management program. It is possible to reduce or completely eliminate damages by planning for the use of the flood-plain in advance of the future development (preventive measures) and by protecting existing development (corrective measures). This study focuses on the importance of the "Regulatory Flood Plain Management Program" for the prevention of flood damages and highlights some of the administrative problems encountered during its short life of implementation.
