The effect of a nutrition education program on future breast feeding mothers

The effect of a nutrition education program on the knowledge of future breast feeding mothers was investigated. The sample population included 50 pregnant women enrolled in a breast feeding class at St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, California. A pretest was given prior to a one-hour lecture explaining the advantages of breast feeding, the effect of diet on milk supply, and the maternal diet recommended during the lactation process. Following the lecture, a posttest was administered. A significant increase in nutrition knowledge was noted.
