Chronic pain and nutrition

The purpose of this study was to examine pain patient response to nutrition questions relating to demographic characteristics, daily eating habits, and changes associated with nutrition and eating habits. The objective was to determine if there was an association between chronic pain and nutrition as it applied to nutritional needs, desires, and eating patterns. A questionnaire was distributed to thirty-one pain patients from The New Hope Pain Center located at Alhambra Community Hospital in California. The findings of the study indicated that the majority of patients (61 per cent) were female. The average age of the sample was 46 years. The majority of respondents were overweight (64 per cent) and had neurological disorders of the back (74 per cent). Most of the participants had at least some high school education, 1ed moderately active lives, and were employed in white collar positions. (See more in text.)
