Homework Resource Folder

As a Kindergarten educator in the public education system, many moments have given me the opportunity to reflect and question myself as an effective teacher. Through the years’ a common obstacle was present as a reason for students’ not reaching their full potential during the Kindergarten year. For this reason, I have put effort into creating a tool, the Homework Resource Folder (HRF). This will help the student, parent, and teacher develop a responsive support group for all, during the child’s first year in Kindergarten. This tool is meant to help bridge the gap in learning foundational skills, communication with parents, and enhancing parental involvement within the school community during the Kindergarten school year. The general idea in Kindergarten, is to prepare young children to succeed in foundational skills which will lead them to success in the following school years. The purpose of the HRF is to help the student become independent and resourceful in the learning process as the folder is used daily by all involved, parent, teacher and student. The product (HRF), will show the importance of a consistent structured program in the classroom which can be replicated at home using the HRF. A balanced program; Common Core State Standards, effective instruction, along with communication in the ELL community will be seen throughout this project. For this reason alone, the idea of the HRF became a common practice in the classroom with the primary focus to help encourage the creativity, imagination and positive development of young Kindergarten students.
