Smart goniometer

Current practice post knee replacement involves rigourous rehabilitation. Patients undergo a process to increase the degree of flexion possible with the new knee. If either the goal degree of flexion or straightening is not achieved within a certain number of days post surgery, the patient will be unable to walk correctly for the rest of their lives. To add to this stress, the current methodology for measuring this angle of flexion is a device that is very difficult to operate or read measurements from alone. This device is called a goniometer and it is much like two rulers hinged together with the measurements located on the outside of the leg. We wish to improve the post knee replacement experience in many ways by radically improving the device so one may operate it alone, see a log of their progress, and automatically keep their medical professional up to date by providing them access to copies of the logs.
