Masters Thesis

Ènìyàn, the nature of being human: a notion conceived from Odù Ifá

This thesis attempts to develop a concept of personhood by focusing upon four concepts based in and explicated within verses of the Yoruba texts of Odu Ifa: ori, iwa, eniyan and asuwada. The author brings them discursively together in order to construct a schema in which these concepts inter-relate and portray a comprehensive idea of what makes a person a person.
